Learn about Ohio’s action plan for forever chemicals

Join us for an important and timely discussion on the future of Ohio's water systems.

Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials will discuss new and upcoming regulations for monitoring and managing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in drinking water and wastewater systems.

Navigating Forever Chemicals: Ohio’s Action Plan for Safe Drinking Water and Wastewater is set for 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at TMACOG.

Known as "forever chemicals" due to their persistence in the environment, PFAS have been linked to health concerns and are a growing focus of state and federal regulators.

This event will provide information communities need to navigate new regulatory standards, best practices, and resources for managing PFAS in their water and wastewater facilities. Attendees will gain insight into Ohio’s plans to protect public health by reducing PFAS exposure and ensuring safe water systems for the future.

  • Brad Lowery, president of Jones & Henry Engineers

Light refreshments and beverages will be provided. Professional contact hours may be available for water and wastewater operators. Approval is pending with Ohio EPA.

Don’t miss this opportunity to ensure your community or organization is prepared for evolving regulations to help safeguard Ohio’s drinking water and wastewater systems.

Sharing the success of the Water Workforce Coalition

More than 200 people learned about the innovative partnership of Northwest Ohio’s Water Workforce Coalition during a 90-minute webinar presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Project partners including TMACOG, the City of Toledo, and Owens Community College shared how they have assembled a successful program over the last two years that has resulted in increased employment for local utilities and improved visibility for these valuable career options.

Lisa Barber, a student who completed her education last spring, has since earned her professional license and a position as a water control room operator with the City of Toledo. She credited the Water Workforce Coalition with helping her find her new career during a testimonial video produced for the webinar.

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)-2

2024 Transportation Improvement Program summary

Under federal law, TMACOG is responsible for producing an annual listing of federal funds that are obligated in the previous fiscal year for the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

In fiscal year 2024 (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024), federal money obligated for transportation projects in Lucas and Wood counties included approximately $70.1 million for 83 projects.

Federally obligated means that federal funds were approved to be used for certain projects. This does not mean that the project was under construction during the prior fiscal year. These funds may include debt payment to build infrastructure that has already been completed, or phases of a future project such as preliminary engineering or right-of-way acquisition.

These projects include roadway, bridge, transit, pedestrian, and bikeway improvements. This listing only  includes federally funded projects only and does not include road projects funded separately by the state, cities, and villages.
